American documentary filmmaker needs your help!

Postby Scoundrel Boy » Thu Mar 04, 2010 5:55 am

Hi, that would be me- Jeremy (aka "Scoundrel Boy")- I'm working on a TV documentary about the band, which I hope to air around North America during their upcoming tour. Today's relaunch of A-ha.com made me realize that I need to hustle... I have interesting interviews with all three band members (recorded in 2005), but am looking to augment with additional video, audio, images, etc.

Ok, I have plenty of materials, but not all "broadcast quality"- here is a wish list, and if anyone has information they can provide, please PM me- I would be happy to talk about compensation, and of course would credit those who can help me out....

"I've Been Losing You" (original video)
"The Living Daylights" video
-"Dark Is The Night" (original "banned" video)
-"Lifelines" album videos
-"Analogue" album videos (and EPK?)
-"Foot of the Mountain" album videos (and EPK would be great!)

I might have some more ideas, but that's a start-- thanks for any help you can provide-- I'm doing this independently-- not getting paid for it myself, and I'm not making money off of it- it's really just a labor of love- me wanting to help promote the band's final fling here in the U.S., and I'll be sure that you all see it-- here are some preview clips:

Cheers! :elk:

oh, one interesting thing I came across tonight while watching my interview with Paul... he says that during the recording of every album, Morten always says they need to do a cover version of Bridges' first song (on "Fakkeltog" I believe he is referring) called "Sox of the Fox"-- that title doesn't match up, but interesting... maybe during this final tour!

Hey Jeremy, I think you should write to Wesley for the video clips you need. He has everything worth having! (except your material of course :^^: )

Will respond to your PM a little later today but wanted to at least give you that idea right away :great:

Thanks to all those who have contacted me with interest in helping out- I really appreciate it- I already have some great material, and have basically been doing the research for 25 years! :)

Another video that comes to mind is the documentary short that Lauren created for Savoy's first album and tour- I have a pretty rough copy, but it would be nice to include some of that in the areas where Paul is talking about Savoy. Anyone have ideas? Solo videos would be good as well-- of course, the music is the important thing, and I have that covered... but anything is much appreciated!

I hope to have this video airing in a couple months, particularly in the areas where the concerts will be happening. Yo A-ha, how about a Boston gig? :)

Thanks,
Jeremy

I have the original DITN video, also the Savoy documentary short (this is the one where Morten visits them backstage right?)... I may also have a clip of them from Entertainment Tonight during the Lillehammer Games... it' all vhs quality though. also some stuff from the montreux festival back in the 80s, their guest VJ appearance on MTV with the monkey (i think this is available on Youtube too though)

I don't know if it's easy to find, but in 2003 "a-ha-The videos"(DVD) was given away by the Spanish record store "FNAC" with purchases of the live double album of How Can I Sleep With Your Voice In My Head.

Found this info on the amazing discography by suzie http://www.a-hadiscography.co.uk/

Tracks: Forever Not Yours / Minor Earth Major Sky / Manhattan Skyline / I've Been Loosing You / Crying In The Rain / The Sun Always Shines On TV (Live) / Did Anyone Approach You? / Lifelines / Stay On These Roads / Hunting High And Low / Take On Me / The Living Daylights / Summer Moved On

If you can get hold of that one it might help you with a few of your wishes: I've been losing you (the original video), The Living Daylights and the Lifelines-videos.
It is out there, and I'm down here.. and so far from it all!

Thanks for the suggestion LarsO and Nicola- I've been looking for that compilation... it does sound like it would be helpful. Just a reminder that I would be happy to compensate those who can help with the project- including credit listing and copy of the finished DVD. Thanks again!

Another question for you fans: there were radio specials for the release of both "Minor Earth" and "Lifelines"- I believe they were broadcast on SW3 Radio from Germany? Does anyone know where I can listen to these specials again? I actually recorded the "Lifelines" one, but have no idea where it is-- I remember it had a spot at one point where Magne talked about using his kids and other voices for the end of "Cannot Hide"- do yo remember this?

I'm not looking to use these specials in my show, but just wanted to listen to them again for reference. Thanks for any help.

Project is coming along-- I'm having good fun working on it!

As I finish up the early years, sort of an odd request... I wondered if anyone knew where to find any old "baby/kid" photos of the guys- I know they have been printed in certain books/magazines (official releases would be best), but I'm not sure where to find them. There is a section where the guys (Morten in particular) talk about their earliest exposure to music, and it would be nice to overlay such images if possible.

Thanks as always!

Let me have a look in Sa Blaser... and I'll get back to you. I'm sure there's some images that you might be able to use in there!

Hey Nic,

Thanks, but I already have "Sa Blaser"- it has proved helpful, but I remember seeing much younger photos of the band-- in "Smash Hits" or whatever-- I don't have a copy of Magne's mother's book- maybe they were also in there? I have a section in the video where Morten talks about hearing a brass band for the first time, and getting excited about music-- having a photo where he is still a small child would be great... if it is easy to find...

Wondering if anyone knows where I can get a copy of "a-ha The Official Photo Book" by Janne Möller-Hansen (1988, ISBN 4789703916)- I believe it was released in Japan... as was "A-ha: THe Pix" (SHINKO MUSIC Pub.Co., Ltd., 1986), but I don't know if that was official.

Thanks for any help!
