A-ha To Play Commercial Radio Awards

Multi-million selling Norwegian pop act a-ha will perform at the 2009 Arqiva Commercial Radio Awards in London on June 5.

The appearance precedes the U.K. release of the Universal Music act's ninth studio album, "Foot of the Mountain," on July 13.

The 14th annual radio awards will be held at the Royal Lancaster Hotel and hosted by Absolute Radio DJ Christian O'Connell. The event, organized by U.K. industry body RadioCentre, recognizes excellence and talent in the commercial radio industry.

Over 400 entries were submitted for this year's awards and nominations, which were chosen by a panel of industry experts and announced earlier this month. As well as the nominated awards, winners of the commercial radio special award, the gold award, the Neil Robinson memorial award, the schools radio award, the chairman's award and the PPL most played artist on commercial radio award will be revealed at the ceremony.

1. A successful nomination secures a free ticket to the awards (nominees should contact Lucy Forster at RadioCentre for further details).

2. Tickets are £95+vat per person for RadioCentre members and £150 for non-members.

A-Ha! It's the Arqivas

The Sony Radio Academy Awards might have a tiny bit more kudos than their commercial-only counterparts, the Arqiva Commercial Radio Awards. But the Sonys can't compete with the Arqiva gongs' special live act – it's A-Ha! The Norwegian popsters will play in front of 600 radio types at the awards in London's Royal Lancaster Hotel on 5 June, with hits including The Sun Always Shines on Radio, Take on Global Radio's Debt, and, er... Hunting High and Low for a Decent DAB Radio Signal. Sad to say it will be Absolute Radio's Christian O'Connell hosting the event, not Alan Partridge, who could of course introduce them with a huge "A-ha!".
